Photograpy & Nature

Marcin Sokołowski

„Nature and photography draw me in more and more.
And I hope it stays that way.”

💫

I used to enjoy being out in nature with my camera. Taking photographs was simply part of the experience. Over time, the proportions began to shift. I still enjoyed being in nature, but more and more I found myself drawn to taking photographs. Today, I probably wouldn’t go anywhere without a camera, though I know that might change someday.

Sometimes I hear people say they prefer to leave the camera at home—that they no longer want to take photographs because the camera can get in the way of simply observing. I understand that. And yet, it scares me a little.

I used to look far away. Today I look closer. Far away—because the unfamiliar carries a sense of freshness. It is interesting, new, even exotic. But when something is unfamiliar, it is difficult to see anything truly exceptional in it. That sense of exception only appears when you know a place well and return to it many times.

My search for new inspiration, and for people who share a similar passion and vision of photography, led to my admission to the Polish Nature Photographers' Union in 2021. It was a great honour and one of the most important milestones in my photographic journey.

Since 2023, I have had the privilege of serving as President of the Podlaskie District of the Polish Nature Photographers' Union. Together with my friends and fellow photographers, we promote nature photography and, more importantly, strive to give nature a voice through our work.
